Your Los Angeles Fire Department implemented one of the most significant organizational changes in its 128-year history on Sunday, January 11, 2015 when the command structure was regionally placed within the community.  The Emergency Services Bureau has been divided into four geographic bureaus. Each bureau will be commanded by a Deputy Chief. Your neighborhood Fire Stations and local Battalion Chiefs are now under the Command of the regional bureau office.

Your Neighborhood Council District is served by the Los Angeles Fire Department, Operations South Bureau under the Command of Daren M. Palacios, Deputy Chief.

As you know your local Fire Station provides world-class Fire and Emergency Medical Services by having three platoons of firefighters on a rotating 24-hour shift. Traditionally the administrative oversight at the local and regional level was also on 24-hour platoon duty all the way up the chain of command until you got to headquarters downtown.

The LAFD has now decentralized that consistent everyday oversight with this new four bureau concept. The bureau will give you a dedicated staff every day at a regional level that is responsible for all LAFD activities in the area.

The Bureau Staff will keep regular business hours. This change will give community members, businesses and organizations one consistent point of contact for all Fire Department matters. The staff will also be on call, and will respond to large emergencies and incidents of significance 24/7.

Chief Palacios and his bureau staff look forward to meeting you in the near future. Until then please don’t hesitate to contact your Los Angeles Fire Department, Operations South Bureau Office with any questions or concerns.

Yours in safety and service,

Daren Palacios, Deputy Chief
