The people make the community, the neighborhood and the Council. So here I am, hoping to inspire a community, a child. My husband is an Air Force veteran and very passionate about city planning. I have spent the latter part of my career in education and the nonprofit sector. I am a published author of two books, an award-winning motivational speaker and a soon to be PhD student at UCLA. I will be pursuing a doctorate in urban education in the fall.
I am originally from San Antonio, Texas where I overcame humble beginnings. My father was addicted to drugs most of my life. My mother struggled as a single parent, but in 2012, I became the first woman in my family to earn a college degree.
I think it’s important for our Council to illustrate all walks of life in San Pedro. I believe it will help us and guide as we make decisions. This is not a competition; it is a service. And I want to serve you!
The most important things to me are: transparency and being a true voice for the community; education and youth opportunities; and building relationships that break gender, age, income, and ethnic barriers.
