The Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council currently has 1 board seat opening.  Any stakeholder age 18 or older may apply.  Before you fill out the application, scroll down and read the Board Member Expectations so that you are aware of what is expected of you should you be chosen to fill a board seat.   Click here to fill out application.  Be sure to include proof of your stakeholder status and a candidate statement.  The Deadline to submit an application is Monday, June 11, 2017 at 5:00pm.  The board will vote to appoint a board member at its June 12, 2018 Board and Stakeholder Meeting.

What is the purpose of the Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council?
The CSPNC functions in an advisory capacity to various Los Angeles City Departments and elected officials through meetings and various forms of communications, as well as promoting a strong sense of neighborhood by bringing stakeholders together to work on activities that enhance the livelihood of the community.

Who can be a Candidate?
Any Stakeholder at least 18 years of age is eligible to run for the office of Board Member.   A “Stakeholder” is defined as those who live, work, or own property in the neighborhood and also to those who declare a stake in the neighborhood and affirm the factual basis for it.  The term of service for these vacant positions is from June 2017 through June 2018.

The Council is bounded on the west commencing at the intersection of 18th Street and Leland Street, then northerly along the center line of Leland Street to 7th Street, then easterly on 7th Street to Meyler Street, then northerly on Meyler Street to 1st Street, then west on 1st Street to Bandini Street, the northerly along the center line of Bandini Street to Upland Avenue, then easterly on Upland Avenue to Meyler Street, then northerly on Meyler Street to Miraflores Avenue, then easterly on Miraflores Avenue to Pacific Avenue, then northerly on Pacific Avenue to a point where it intersects with the centerline of the Southwest Channel of Los Angeles Harbor, then easterly along the center line of the Southwest Channel to the point where it intersects with the Main Channel in the Turning Basin of the Port of Los Angeles, then southerly along the center line of the Main Channel to a point where it intersects with the center line of the San Pedro slip of the Port of Los Angeles, then northerly along the center line of 14th Street, then westerly along the center line of 14th Street to a point 100 feet west of Pacific Avenue, then southerly along a line 100 feet west of Pacific Avenue to 18th Street, then westerly along the center line of 18th Street to Leland Street.

Board Member Expectations
Candidates should realize that with the board position comes a commitment to support the organization, its programs, and policies, and to do all that they can to develop and maintain high standards.

Also, this commitment comes with certain responsibilities and duties that require time to ensure that our council responds to our stakeholders. In this respect, candidates are expected to do their best to:

  • Become familiar with the Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council, its policies, procedures, and positions on issues so that you can become an informed member of the council.
  • Learn and abide by the policies of the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. Complete required training in a timely manner.
    • Required training includes financial training, minimum 2 hours of ethics training and proof that you reviewed the code of conduct.
  • Act as a resource in defining activities and/or issues/concerns within our council district which can respond to our stakeholders concerns and issues.
  • Attend board/stakeholder meetings and send email if unable to attend.
  • Attend programs and events presented by the council.
  • Review all council materials/recommendations in advance so that you can help the board make effective decisions.
  • Exhibit respectful behavior to fellow board members and stakeholders at all times.
  • Attend the annual planning session/board retreat, and participate in the development, adoption, and implementation of the council initiatives.
  • Serve on a minimum of one committee of your choosing, or as requested by the President of the council.
  • Make an effort to recruit at least one stakeholder per year to become active in a committee.
