The L.A. Cash for College will host its annual workshops designed to assist students in completing financial aid applications during the financial aid application season from January 1st to March 2nd. In addition, the program hosts a “Super Saturday” event set for February 1, 2014 where more than 40 workshops are scheduled simultaneously throughout the greater Los Angeles region.
During this workshop season, students and their families are invited to attend a free workshop at one of nearly 150 community locations across the Los Angeles region where trained volunteers from colleges, universities, and businesses provide free one-on-one assistance to help them complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the California Dream Act Application, to access financial aid resources including Cal Grants. Workshops are conducted in concert with our network of community partners including the California Student Aid Commission, local schools and social service providers.
Attendance at a workshop enables students to compete for an additional $1,000 scholarship through CFC chosen at random from each workshop location.
As part of our continued outreach to improve the participation rates of African-American and foster youth students and their families, we’re placing greater emphasis, outreach and marketing in highlighting South Los Angeles and Foster youth specific workshop offerings. If you can please share this information with your partners and colleagues, it would be greatly appreciated.
Lastly, our workshops are not possible without the support of partners and volunteers. We would be honored if you would consider volunteering or sharing these volunteer opportunities with your peers. (Volunteer info here).
Thanks again for your consideration.
Best,
